6.1.3 Voltage testing methods
6.1.3.1 General
[or medium- and high-voltages tests, methods described in llEF Std 4-1995 shall be used.
6.1.3.2 Inductive or hybrid couplers
For purposes of voltage tests of an inductive coupler, it shall be hung on a rigid horizontal wire or electrically conductive pipe of diameter approximately equal to the maximum size of conductor to which the coupler is designed to be attached. This wire or pipe simulates the primary voltage conductor.
Hybrid couplers designed to pass one or more power line conductors through the primary aperture of a magnetic core shall be tested as described in the previous paragraph. Hybrid couplers designed to be clamped onto a power line that does not pass through such an aperture shall be tested by clamping onto a rigid horizontal wire or electrically conductive pipe of diameter approximately equal to the maximum size of conductor to which the coupler is designed to be attached in the field.
6.1.3.3 Capacitive couplers
For purposes of voltage tests of a capacitive coupler, its phase terminal shall be connected to a voltage source and ground applied to its ground terminal. The ground terminal shall be of sufficient size to carry the maximum fault current available wider the test conditions.
6.1.4 Specific electrical requirements
6.1.4.1 General
Table 3 provides electrical insulation levels covering testing and design requirements for inductive, capacitive, and hybrid couplers. The only exceptions are listed in 6.1 .4,2.

The power-frequency withstand voltage test for couplers designed for use only on conductors carrying up to 750 V shall be 5 kV rms
6.1.4.2.2 Capacitive arrester-couplers
Capacitive arrester-couplers shall be tested according o IEEE Std C62. II or IEC 60099-4. in addition to all other tests specified in this standard, unless otherwise noted.
