1 Scope
This document specifies the dimensional requirements for the 26 mm diameter, 6 mm height crown cap, lined with a plastic gasket and designed to seal bottles with neck finishes foreseen for pry-off or twist-crown applications.
It specifies the dimensional requirements that are of direct importance to the customer/ bottler and recommendations for cap application.
The gasket material and profile are not specified as a number of different profiles are available depending on the end use and supplier specific technology. The requirement placed on the gasket profile design is that it needs to be fit for purpose used in conjunction with glass finishes in reference.

3 Term and definition

6.3 Taking into account the respective tolerances, the differences between the geometry of the crown and the bottle neck finish have to be evaluated for the required seal performance. Double or single lip liner profiles are available.
6.4 Application and implementation of crowns caps according to the current document has to be performed in accordance with the cap supplier requirements.
6.5 The conformity of the final product is to be evaluated after the complete bottling process.
6.6 Crown-cap performance evaluation of caps on dummy steel neck finishes to be agreed between user and manufacturer.
6.7 Stacking and pallet handling of capped products should be carried out with due care so as not produce harmful degradation of the closure. Any modifications to stacking and handling conditions shall be subject of the relevant analysis to ensure the absence of negative impact.
6.8 Degradation related to crown application may be at the origin of the development of corrosion in the presence of moisture. The usual recommendations on rinsing / drying shall be followed to prevent these phenomena.
