This Appendix sets out the method of measuring the dimensions of cellular blankets for use in hospitals and kindred institutions.
82 PRINCIPLE The measurement of the dimensions of a blanket is made in three places along the length and three places along the width while laid out on a smooth flat surface free from applied tension. The mean of the three dimensions in each direction is determined to the nearest centimetre.
B3 APPARATUS
83.1 Measuring rule or tape Measuring rule or tape graduated in centimetres and millimetres accurate to 1 mm shall be used.
B3.2 Smooth flat surface A smooth flat surface, greater in dimensions than the specimen being tested, shall be used.
B3.3 Conditioning facility A means of providing and maintaining the standard atmosphere described in AS 2001.1 shall he provided (i.e. 20 ±2°C temperature and 65 ±2 percent relative humidity).
B4 TEST SPECIMEN The specimen shall be a whole blanket.
B5 PkocEDUk: The procedure shall be as follows:
(a) Condition the blanket being tested in the standard atmosphere in accordance with
AS 2001.1.
(b) Lay the blanket out flat, free from wrinkles and creases and applied tension, on a smooth flat surface.
(c) Measure and record to the nearest centimetre the length (L) and the width (W) of the
blanket in three places (see Figure B!)—
(i) parallel to the edges:
(ii) in the centre; and
(iii) at a position one-tenth of the cross measurement from either edge.
B6 CALCULATION AND EXPRESSION OF RESUI4TS Calculate the dimensions of the blanket to the nearest centimetre as the mean of the three length measurements and the mean of the three width measurements.
B7 REPORT The report shall state the recorded dimensions of the blanket.
The report shall make reference to this Australian Standard, i.e. AS 3789.10. Appendix B.
